Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who had to go into hiding to escape from the Nazis. While she was in hiding she wrote a diary, which would later become world-famous. After Anne was discovered and arrested she couldn’t write anymore, so we don’t know what she felt, thought and experienced. But we do know a lot about this period, based on eyewitness accounts and documents. On 4 August 1944 the police arrested Anne and the others in hiding with her. First they were taken to prison and then they ended up in the Westerbork transit camp. During the night of 2-3 September 1944 a long list of names was read out, including those of the group who had been in hiding. The next morning they were due to be transported, together with a thousand other Jewish men, women and children. But where to? Follow Anne Frank and discover her story. We are an independent non-profit organisation that runs a museum in the house where Anne Frank went into hiding and we try to increase awareness of Anne’s life story all over the world, encouraging people to reflect on the dangers of antisemitism, racism, and discrimination, and the importance of freedom, equal rights, and democracy.
